“Where Food and Medicine Join Hands”.
The Food Farmacy at Green Uprising inspires us to grow, cook, and create nourishing foods that blur the line between food and medicine. These offerings come from another world, a blend of ancient and new (the world we are all working to create!) where all the food is healing and all the medicine is satisfying and delicious. Here are some of the offerings.
Best Pesto: “Today’s Best Picks from the Garden”
The base of our pesto is a seasonal mix of nutrient dense leafy greens that could include any of the following: arugula, mizuna, parsley, mustard, dandelion, tulsi, basil, cilantro, nettle, kale, chard, mallow, borage, lemon sorrel, chicory, radichio, and purslane. To this we add organic pumpkin seeds, organic sunflower seeds, organic olive oil, organic apple cider vinegar, organic lemon juice, cayenne, and sea salt.
Half pint jar – $6.00
Michael’s Seeded Sourdough Bread
The bread is dense and heavy – not the airy, poofy stuff. It is a peasant bread made for hardworking people that need nutrient-dense calories that fill your belly and satisfy your soul. It is made with Michael’s 20(ish) year-old sourdough culture, Doug Mosel’s red fife wheat, rye flour from a Lake County farmer, organic sunflower and flax seeds soaked in whey from our goats, and sea salt.
2lb loaf – $9.00 or Half loaf (1 lb) – $4.50
Nutrient dense salad mix
This mix is a seasonal variety of the most nutrient dense greens available in our garden — lots of brassicas (arugula, mizuna, mustard, komatsuna), beet greens, radichios, chicories, dandelion and, of course, an array of red and green incised, butter, crisp and oak leaf lettuces.
1/2 lb – $6.00
Fire Cider Salad – Roots, Shoots, Greens & Cruicifers
Fire Cider Salad takes the traditional fire cider folk remedy (which has many variations but usually includes apple cider vinegar soaked with onions, garlic, ginger, horseradish, spicy peppers, and honey) and fills the jar with seasonal salad makings and vegetables from our garden. Each jar has a range of roots, shoots, greens and crucifers including beets, carrots, turnips, radishes, burdock, onions, leeks, garlic, a range of spicy peppers, arugula, mustard greens, komatsuna, cabbage, broccoli, collards, kale, chard, beet greens, parsley, and cilantro. To this we add some herbs (depending on the season) such as rosemary, thyme, oregano, elder, hawthorne, hyssop, and nettle. Eat your greens and vegetables and then drink the Fire Cider!
Pint jar $6.00 Quart Jar $10.00
